A Grade vs B Grade Bricks — Which Should You Choose for Your Project?

When ordering bricks for construction in Lahore, one of the first decisions is grade: A Grade (Awwal) or B Grade (Doam). Both are widely used, but for different purposes — choosing the wrong one can either overspend your budget or compromise structural strength. Here’s how to decide.

A Grade Bricks (Awwal) — Premium Strength

A Grade Awwal bricks are the top choice for load-bearing walls and structural work. They’re known for their strength, consistent shape, and durable finish — making them the standard choice wherever the wall needs to carry real structural load, such as main house walls, columns support, or multi-story construction.

Best for: Load-bearing walls, structural work, main construction

Trade-off: Higher price point compared to B Grade, but the added strength and consistency pay off in long-term durability.

B Grade Bricks (Doam) — Economical & Practical

B Grade Doam bricks are a more cost-effective option, well suited to construction and filling work that doesn’t require the highest structural grade. They’re commonly used for:

  • Boundary walls
  • Non-load-bearing partitions
  • Filling work
  • Budget-conscious projects where every wall doesn’t need premium-grade material

Best for: Boundary walls, filling, non-structural work

Trade-off: Lower cost, but not recommended for main load-bearing structures.

How to Decide

Ask yourself:

  1. Is this wall carrying structural load? → Go with A Grade Awwal.
  2. Is this a boundary wall, partition, or filling job? → B Grade Doam is a practical, cost-effective choice.
  3. Mixed project? → Many contractors use A Grade for main structural walls and B Grade for boundary/non-structural areas — this is a common and cost-effective approach, not a compromise.

A Note on Brick Stamps

Within A Grade Awwal, you’ll also find different stamp variants (23 Marka, 7UP Marka, M1, M2, MBS, PK Marka) — these generally reflect the specific kiln or batch rather than a difference in structural grade, though slight consistency differences can exist between batches. If you have a stamp preference from past projects, let us know when ordering.
